Just by watching the photos, clearly the iPhone has better processing and puts out more detail, but the colors are too dramatic and contrasty, even on faces. Plus, most of the iPhone photos boost the greens too much, sometimes blending your face in green too. Yes, samsung prefers the warmer tones with magentish hues and pulls out less detail, but they surely all look lively and a tad colorful, unlike iPhone's.

@Raw Content uhh... project much? Yeah, that's why MrWhostheBoss has a video complaining about all the features that Andriod and by proxy Sansung have not been in IOS, but in the videos when he's comparing them he discounts those as 'gimmicks' and gives the win to Apple. So please get your facts straight. I've seen it since the beginning with Apple vs everyone else. A technology exists on another platform, and the Apple Company line is "oh you don't need that..." until they release it. Then it is like it never existed anywhere else. Might as well be "The Largest crowd to attend an inauguration EVER!..period!" That's the attitude if you try to even mention that said technology existed before the blessed Apple latest.

  • GP82
    GP82 4 दिन पहले +1

Surprising you didn't bring up Apple not fixing the lens flare issue, it's still really bad for night time photos and video. Overall, I would say the camera's are not really an improvement over the 13 pro, dynamic range has improved a little (but still behind the competition) but over sharpening has made many photos much worse.

I think you summed it up quite well. Samsung like to saturate your photos and it tricks your eyes into thinking it's a better picture because it's more vibrant and brighter. iPhone takes a much clearer images for those who like the natural look and then leave it to the user to decide if they want that saturated look.

Well, it seems like Samsung and Apple is taking the lead with every new flagship lineups. S22 ultra was released on February 2022, 14 Pro Max On September 2022 and the cameras look slightly better, the S23 Ultra will have better cameras than iPhone 14 Pro Max and so on... I believe either Samsung or Apple has prepared camera improvements on years ahead, and investigating how far the competitor went with their new flagship phone to adjust their own next flagship to beat the competitor though. It's just a game where nobody wants to reveal the cards and get profit with older technology rather than stuff the cutting edge technologies inside their phones. So, I bet the Samsung S23 Ultra is going to beat the iPhone 14 Pro Max cameras.

as a photographer, I have noticed that Apple's processing image processing generally seems to be more conservative than Samsung's in, with the exception of the sharpening. Sometimes I like the Samsung's look more than the iPhone's, but other times I do not, and as a photographer, I would prefer to give the photo its look after the fact (like you mentioned). Totally understand why people would prefer the S22 Ultra's "look" though.
I would also have to disagree with you on your take on the white balance, however. I feel the iPhone does a much better job getting it right. Different photographers have different styles, but I typically choose a warmer white balance when in doubt, as I prefer the look of a slightly too warm skin tones/white balance over those that is slightly too cool. On many of the portraits of you on the S22 Ultra, your hair almost looks to be blue, and it is very clear that your skin tones should be warmer.
Also what you mentioned about the shutter lag. I was very disappointed with the shutter lag on portrait mode with my 13 pro, and can't imagine it being any worse.
all in all, great video with some really interesting points!

Great to see that phones are getting more GoPro like video stabilization. Literally the only thing I wish my Samsung S21 Ultra had. I've just been using my S21 to record POV of me skiing because it is better quality than my GoPro and is braindead easy to manage media because it auto uploads to Google Photos for me and the variety of lenses is amazing. Samsungs current stabilization is pretty useless and I feel like I get a better result when I stabilize it in Resolve later. Hoping to see Samsung match at least GoPro Hero 7 levels of stabilization in the next one!

Thank you for comparing the camera differences between iphone and Samsung. It is sad to know that iphone only features on camera features, in terms of design and other features, Samsung has far improved and had introduced the ZFold and ZFlip as something innovative. Can you do a sustained screen brightness test between the new iPhone’s and competitors? Anyone that’s flown a drone in the bright sunlight knows how much brightness of an iPhone falls after being outside for very long. I’m wondering if the competition does this also. After about 5 minutes in the Texas Sun the screen of my iPhone 13 and 14 pro is virtually unreadable.

I own an iPhone11pro, and it came out in 2019 and I still got the ios16 update also the phone runs like butter. Samsung released S10 at that time, it wont get android13 and I am pretty sure by this time it must be lagging too much.
So, before just buying it for the gimmicks, consider this simple thing

    • Roger Innocent
      Roger Innocent 10 दिन पहले

My girlfriend has an s10 plus. Stills runs like a champ. The latest iteration of android is good for at least another 2 years. My S21 512gb has one or 2 more upgrades and 5 years security. How much difference do you feel or see with ios 16? Not much...just like the phones. My phone is actually running smoother and faster than when I bought it. Software updates these days are not huge jumps. They only seem so with iPhone to certain people because Apple spoon feeds tech that android has had for years. Just getting always on display and adding gimmicks to a hole in your screen is not innovation. I own an iPhone and iPad plus my s21 ultra. There is no iPhone that can do what can be done on my samsung. I started with the Nexus line so I know what the phone can do. I feel for people that don't really know what to do with android. This is my opinion and experience.

there were numerous places where you said the iphone looked better, and I found that it was the samsung. for example, your cat 7:06 clearly looks better on samsung. the flower looked better, although there was more bokeh on the apple. and the moss/fungi (not sure) on the log looked better on samsung. the knitted material came out better on samsung, having more color definition which was lost on apple, but you said apple looked better. your mind seems to have started to trick you. and at 7:09 you look better on samsung, but at 7:12 you look better on apple. the jury was out on the leaf too, btw. I do like less shutter lag, better video and sound, on the iphone.
Lastly, I dislike that Apple drains us of our savings, doesn't pay taxes, and squirrels away trillion$ in offshore accounts. Taxes help fix infrastructure, keep defense relevant, fund social programs... and Apple's money collection and tax-evasion isn't contributing anything to society.

The most important thing to mention is that, the S22 came out in early 2022, and iPhone 14 only now, so they had around 6 months to improve their phone, so this is not an equal comparison, and so will be with S23 vs iPhone 14.
Both manufacturers are great, but U am a Samsung fan. Samsung is the best when they launch their flagship until the new iPhone comes out. Samsung (late winter-early autumn) and iPhone (early autumn-late winter)

As a professional photographer for over 15 years, let me assure you that anything past around 24 MP is completely useless unless you're intending to print out a billboard sized photo. As you say, the sensor size, quality of the lens, and processing algorithm are far far more important.

@Aurelijus Langvinis although phone has over taken compact cameras is still far far behind a full frame DSLR. As dennis have said sensor size and the processor is more crucial and the given real estate of phone we may never see DSLR getting obsolete in our lifetime.

Larger MP gives more advantage given everything else the same. Eg a7riv down resolution to a7iii size will get better noise performance AND allowing fsr more crops capabilities, which could be essential if your type of photography can't land you where you want, when you want all the time

    as a beginner photographer
i never really used the full potential of my phone
its just that phones have gotten so good that if you really wanna step up you should just buy specific hardware in this case a DSLR
ive handed my phone to skilled photographers which only then max out my phones potential which sure does mean the 14 pro would be slightly better but i think at that point you should get a DSLR camera, they wont be obsolete till a couple years honestly.
both phones are amazing honestly at this point it just comes down to preference (OS, looks, toys and eco system) yk?

I would tread carefully in discussing the dynamic range in these cameras. The native dynamic range of a mobile phone sensor is extremely poor. But with the help of computational photography and merging several captured frames into one, we get the impressive results we have today.
But the finished product and its traits: dynamic range, sharpness, saturation, color balance and so on, is a result of design and esthetic choices and not the hardware itself. Some companies believe natural-looking images are best for most customers and some believe brighter colors and more "HDR" (tonal compression) will impress more. Most likely, regardless of brand, you can shoot raw and tweak the images just as you see fit anyway.

Great comparison but I would disagree with the nighttime point. In my opinion the S22 is better there, especially with pictures of architecture in low light.
From a usability standpoint: if you get a Exynos version, the best camera will not help you if the whole phone feels laggy AF in half of your usecases (might be fine for "gaming") but this is of course not the scope of the Video....

Here is another point of view on this whole smartphone conundrum. You are basically comparing 2 different case scenarios. Different hardware and software. Lens and sensor types so in a null test these are incomparable.
In my opinion, the 48 megapixel proraw of the Apple is better alas the post-processing I feel defeats the point. Other than the lut used to process the colours when using Adobe raw or capture one.
Secondly pixel binning to capture more light really is a substitute for not having a full frame sensor.
Lower your expectations and you will not be disappointed.

In most photo shots Apple is better exposed and more natural. In some videos, Samsung is more natural, but in most, Apple takes that, too. As for me, I am still okay with my Sony, even if worse than both. It is amazing is what compute photography (CP) has achieved in later years. Waiting for compute-auto mode on traditional photo cameras... (for layman, not for pro photographers, of course).

I have definitely noticed a huge jump in Apple's cameras, but I feel like this comparison wasn't completely fair. I feel like zooming into the pixels and talking about the processing of them distracted you from the actual quality of the pictures that were taken, and I genuinely think Samsung takes the cake in all of these categories. Now, obviously, this is al very subjective, and just my personal opinion, but I felt like I would put it out there.
I also think these results would change if you did another video reviewing these two cameras on how great these pictures can turn out after some sort of semi-professional editing. If you did so, Samsung would definitely take the win basically because of the Pro RAW app available in the Galaxy Store. That ability to use all of Samsung's features on their phone, but take all of those photos as RAW files, would definitely give them the upper hand.

One thing I've noticed when they make reviews for the cameras for both phones they never note how fast the camera app comes up and how it looks when you're taking a quick snap of something. Samsung has really bad quality when comes to urgency usage. Say you're taking a boat ride and you see some dolphins. Taking out your S22 ultra to snap that quick moment will get you nothing but a blurry mess compared to the iPhone. Wether it be high settings or low, Samsung performs very bad. Samsung has a bending effect on the photos when your try to quickly snap something. I have both phones and if you want picture that will probably not look bad on any occasion, go for the iPhone.

That's the dissonance of having conflicting information.

There is one task of a camera phone you seem to have completely skipped. If you are shooting 4k 60 fps video on your phone, it seems unlikely you would want to permanently store them there. It seems to me the point would be to transfer them to a computer at some point. So, for example, if you wanted to transfer multiple 4k 60 fps videos to a new M2 MacBook Air, which will transfer the video files faster? And how much is the speed difference in transferring the video files?
