I really like your take on what apple is doing. Basically, mom is frustrated with her phone all the time because she doesn't understand that she actually did need the super pro version to make it worth while. This makes her quit trying to be tech savvy and that leads to her being not tech savvy and that leads her to not understanding that she is getting ripped off by spending 800 instead of 1200 for what should be the same phone just a little smaller that fits her hand and pocket better.

@Electrodexify iOS hardly has any bugs but Android is full of them with its poor design and code, Android is an unpublished turd of an OS that Google can’t fix, why do you think Google is making a new OS? Because they know Android is a hot mess of poor battery standby time, power consumption, power hungry and a cesspool of chaos and confusion, where there’s no money to be may and Google’s and Samsung’s solutions are just throw RAM at the problem with lag that’s why Android needs 50GB RAM just to keep up with iOS, what a joke that is.

I like Apples down-to-earth approach to implementing new features. It’s just a shame that their marketing and especially their pricing policy are quite the opposite.
But as I only upgraded last year I won’t be buying another phone for at least the next two years, probably more like three or four years.
By then it might be worth the upgrade again.
There’s one thing that pisses me off though, and that’s not enabling the always-on-display on the 13 Pro models. It would probably suck a tiny little bit more battery on those devices, but it shouldn’t be a dealbreaker.
Theoretically they could enable it on any device with an OLED screen, all the way back to the iPhone X. It probably makes sense not to do that, but last year’s Pro models should definitely get this feature.

@Benjamin Jagun I have a A72 with a snapdragon 720g, and i dont understand why would it lag cuz of the aod Edit: it also sucks battery life on iphone, it has to powerthe screen somehow, and the aods shown are much more than a clock and battery precent on android

    • Benjamin Jagun
      Benjamin Jagun 17 दिन पहले

@AR yeah right. AOD on Android sucks battery life even when idle and your $400 phone will lag after a year especially if it’s not lagging already if your Galaxy A is the A53 with that laggy Exynos.

Features Android has had for years, but when Apple does it, it's somehow "revolutionary". I've never seen a company manipulate their users as much as Apple does.
If iPhone users spent five mins looking at Samsung phones they'd realize how bad they're being hoodwinked.
I had always on display on my Lumia in 2015. Almost a full decade later Apple finally gets around to adding it to their iPhones and people think they're geniuses?

@alex hernandez it's a glorified alerts and notifications area. It does nothing that any smartphone hasn't been doing for years now with their always on display. FYI on Samsung phones you don't even need to have your phone unlocked to get the same notifications, on the iPhone? Still need to unlock your phone to get those same alerts
I mean, c'mon man Windows phones had this figured out with their live tiles on their phones 10 years ago.

@crash as I said, you have assumptions there that Apple users “tout” iPhone’s features as being cutting edge technology. I don’t personally know any Apple user that says this is the “latest and greatest” technology. For example, I obviously know AOD has been around for ages, whoever says this is a new feature?
You call it a walled garden, I call it an ecosystem. It is undeniably one of apple’s key successes in customer retention. The synergy between all devices is unmatched.
You call it hoodwinked, I call it “going in with my eyes open”. I know exactly the level of customisation androids offer (note: not just Samsung), but as a user, I prefer simplicity, and hence my preference with Apple.
Different perspectives the subject. So once again, mind your own business. You almost sound like a “truth-seeking”, “freedom fighter” wanting everyone to follow your beliefs.

I got the 13 PM earlier this year due to me having Samsung since the S7 and I’ve enjoyed the change in scenery, but I do miss a lot of features my 21 ultra had that this 13 doesn’t. So this is reassuring my decision to go back when the 23 drops. I do like the 13 don’t get me wrong but there’s still a few gimmicks about the 13 that makes me regret me choice.

    • GodGokuBlack

Same here. I only got the iPhone 13 Pro Max because the S22 Ultra wasn’t in stock. Out of disappointment, I bought the 13 pro max on an impulse. Regret it greatly. I’ve been using iPhones for a long time but made the switch to Samsung in 2019, never regretted it one bit. The iPhone 13 Pro Max is severely OP but honestly Apple’s software keeps it limited.

    • Covert Skyline
      Covert Skyline 16 दिन पहले +3

@ZeeRoiiid the biggest would have to be factory split screen, being able to use 2 apps at once helps more than some people think. Quick close on all recent apps. Every once in a while my service went is switched from my phone number to my Apple ID then I don’t get messages or calls. Apple Music forcefully stops playing any other entertainment source when it connects to Bluetooth. Having a zoom capability more than 3x (I use my camera a lot for work and need to zoom in more than what the 13 PM does). Yea they are coming out with it now but since Apple is always late to their own funeral, I have to say that I’ve always missed an always on display. Now the good!!! Battery life, hands down Apple is king. Next is iTunes as a whole… what else needs to be said. Accessories by popularity. The silent mode switch has always been an absolute favorite of mine. Flat screen opposed to curved. The body… damn is this classic iPhone 4 body sexy. Camera is a tight battle but Apple seems to have the better software. Another big problem I have is Bluetooth doesn’t let me send pictures to android users (without using outside apps). That’s about it.

Great take. The thinking is always go for the odd numbered phones, I have a 13Pro and have zero interest in the 14, maybe the 15 by that time I'll have had my 13 pro for at least three years. I'm also not upgrading my iPhone till the legacy lightening port is ditched. Apple has some right ideas as in nobody is really upgrading "themselves" enough to require huge advances in tech each year - make calls yes, SNS, yes selfies yes, that's about it, may as well just tweak what people use to make it incrementally better. I think the real advance in cell phones will be phone makers building infrastructure such as Tesla and it's satellites. Living in London I have so many dead spots, trains, underground, my apartment or just next to tall buildings. Smart phones need smart networks even if it just means consumers can consume more and tech companies make more profit.

My question about adaptive refresh rates is: When my screen is showing something static like an ebook page or something where the refresh rate has been decreased down to 1hz, and I suddenly swipe to the next page or basically do something that returns the refresh rate back to normal, will there be a bit of lag for a split second when the refresh rate returns to normal, or will it be instant and unrecognizable?

The biggest downside of the new iPhones is the pricing in Europe. I mean the normal 14/plus cost 999€/1149€ and the Pro/Max cost 1299/1449€ which is about a 200€ bump from last year across the whole lineup. Thats gonna make the iPhones sell even less in Europe as we already have significant price bumps in every day life such as electricity, gas and so on. Im really mad at Apple that they didn't say that in the event, because i was so glad that the price stayed at 999/1099$ but seems it didn't account for Europe.

What you mentioned as "The Ugly" is precisely what will stop me from buying the iPhone 14.
I was expecting a notch design change and we got it! But only for the pro versions, which is a major disappointment from my point of view.
I'd already decided to buy the 14 as my 1st iPhone ever, but I just dropped that decision and am staying in Android world.
I mean: I can buy an used 13 pro max (with new battery) for less than 1200€, so what's the point in buying a new 14 base model for 1040€? To have the same design, same chipset, but possibly worse camera set?
Bad, bad move, Apple. Android it (still) is.

@Benjamin Jagun if you put in just a tiny bit of effort, which iphone users generally don't, i get amazing photos with this camera. Much better as the iphone could ever make. Video PROCESSING is better on the iphone, but one does make a lot more photos as they make video's, generally speaking.

Regarding the Mini, I was actually put off by the notch because it was the same size as on the Max. This made it proportionally much larger and took up too much of the screen. I hope when they get rid of intrusions completely, they bring back a Mini version. The fact that it is cheaper is, for me, irrelevant.

I have a feeling that many people will not use the always on display, due to it giving the impression that the display is not off, and as such, they might feel that their phone is always running even when they hit the power button. With other phones, the screen goes black, showing that the phone has turned off, and THEN a small image appears on screen, leaving the rest black. It is the same thing with e-ink displays, people feel much more comfortable when their screen displays all white ("off") instead of just whatever they last had on the screen, or something like a picture.

@Ketu Birali There are smart features along with AOD to maximize efficiency. it doesn't stay on if sensors detect that it's in the pocket or if it's facing down just like how the screen goes off if you are on a phone call and the phone is against your face. I think depending on usage, the passive drain by using AOD is offset or comes out ahead by not having to wake the screen to see the time, check if there is any notification, etc. Ppl are focusing on the passive power draining of the AOD, but they aren't considering the potential power saving by not actually waking the phone up.

    • d p
      d p 17 दिन पहले

@Benjamin Jagun it’s not power efficient as in pure mAh battery consumption perspective. But it if when you talk about % it eats out of your phone. They generally have larger battery than iphone. If you wanna talk about android’s general battery life issue, that’s a different topic. But AOD isn’t a major culprit.

    • Benjamin Jagun
      Benjamin Jagun 17 दिन पहले

@d p AOD on Android is NOT power efficient and Apple had once again solved an Android problem that Samsung and Co were clearly incapable or more likely couldn’t be bothered because battery life wasn’t a priority for them and Android and battery life don’t go together unless it’s a big honking 6000mAh battery or 10000mAh battery, yet there are Android phones with batteries as big as that.

I’m certain one of the big reasons the Mini didn’t make it was battery life. I know some people liking a smaller phone (and the SE is quite popular, which proves my point) and it was like an SE with full screen. But the battery life was arguably terrible. And my ex-wife picked up an SE instead.

Apple have been doing the “features limiting” trick since Apple II computer. Just ask Woz, he had disagreements over that with Jobs almost from day one. Woz wanted to include every option possible and than some in Apple’s computers and Jobs wanted to include only what was necessary and than charge extra for the extra features. Tim Cook as Jobs’s disciple continues with this strategy even more. Also worth noting he is not an Apple’s visionary like Jobs was, but comes from supply chain management… so there’s that too (profit over form)

Apple makes NO changes to their phone hardware, until they run out of inventory on something. They have been teasing about USB-C for years now, but the truth is, they will only fully implement USB-C when they run out of thunderbolt connectors. The design stays the same because it's cheaper than re-tooling to create a new phone each year. And the iPhone mini, was just a way to sell all the older phone parts, that didn't sell, in years past. They have been using these tricks for YEARS... because they work. lol

@Benjamin Jagun yeah apple's is nicer and sleeker but there have been a million different multitasking options on androids, both app and phone based. Sceen in screen, dual screen, etc. It is an improvement on previous concepts indeed, but it isn't a groundbreaking innovation.

    • Benjamin Jagun

@Conrado FMC_Ny the Dynamic Island is Apple’s biggest innovation for a long time and while they don’t bring something that’s been on Android for years, immediately but when they do, it’s implemented much better and something like tut Dynamic Island hasn’t been done before and LG’s second screen doesn’t count because it was a completely separate screen where as Dynamic Island is on the same screen with a clever utilisation of software and smooth animations.

An iPhone as a secondary phone is recommended given its level of security and optimization of its operating system. It is impossible for me to carry an iPhone as a primary phone because it is simply too ugly and outdated in terms of design and features. When looking at the competition we will realize that a high-end Android device can offer even more than what Apple even sells you as something innovative when it really is not.

As a cell phone salesman, 80% of the customers who come through my door come in because their iPhone 8-X has stopped working. They want the base model of the newest iPhone. Usually they ask "what iPhone are we on now?" They usually don't even bother asking about the price. To a very large majority of the US market, the iPhone is the only smartphone available, and there is only one of them every year.

@politcally correct not subjective but objective. Go into an apple store and ask one of the marketing agents what are the advantages of buying an Apple product over a competitor and they get confused as they are not used to a non believer and then say they don't do comparisons. I used to own a Mac Mini and when I was having a problem and he said with a straight face that Apple products were like Ferrari. I could not stop laughing. Also the way which they try to push you to buy a new product rather than repair an existing one. So not subjective but based on experience and objective.

As someone who works in the mobile phone industry selling the phones I will say that my entire career doing this I've really disliked iPhones and now I've grown to hate iPhones. iPhones are literally tyranny in a phone. The esim is the worst idea ever. You mentioned it in your video that if you live in the United States and you go overseas you can't get a SIM card for your service. Well there are way worse things in the states that help us help people with their phones and apple has completely gridlocked people to come to them for help and the store are too few to do anything. Apple if not anything is the world's greatest copycat they wait till someone else does something they wait three or four years and then they come out and have an innovation on an or an improvement on it. They are never ahead of the game in ideas. They simply wait until someone else does something and then they copy it in and act like they created it. That is their MO. Which is why it's annoying the fact that Apple didn't wait for someone else to do ease him see where all the mistakes are and then Apple couple years later switches the eSim with a lot of the things fixed that are wrong with it. This just proves to me that apple is not a company of innovators. Any unique idea they have for themselves fall flat on its face.

It’s amazing how they can make things look like they’re leaps and bounds better when they’re not. I’m quite happy with my 13 pro max. The saving grace for iPhones was a 120hz display. That’s it, that’s all the iPhone needed to feel amazing. Going to android then coming back to my iPhone always felt shitty because my iPhone at the time had a 60hz display and I was adjusted to the 120hz of my S21 Ultra. Once the 13 pro released in green, I had to have it. This will be my phone for a good long time. I doubt it will get sluggish anytime soon

interestingly enough the most secure versions of ios were 5,6,7 since then security vulnerabilities in each ios version has gotten worse, compared to Android which keeps getting more and more secure each version.
Also, search statistics show that people search ios update problems and bugs way much more than searches for Android updates.

I was hoping to switch from my Galaxy s21 Ultra to a 14 Pro Max so I could sync with my MacBook Air M1. (Got it almost a year ago. The wifi antenna and Bluetooth are weaker than my 6 yr old HP, and there's no pause button on the video camera, but it's a great machine to work on.) But the 14 Pro Max's tiny 3X optical telephoto and 15X digital isn't in the same league as the s21 and s22 Ultras' 10X optical and 30X and 100X digital telephotos. (I get cool photos of the Moon with the s21!) So I'll probably wait for the 15 Pro Max which hopefully will match the Galaxy telephotos (though rumors are the s23 might have a 200X zoom), get the faster USB-C connection (esp if Apple wants to sell them in Europe), and put a pause button on the video camera, such an utterly simply and obvious thing.

If they wanted to steal your phone they would take it and factory reset it. You are actually dumb if you think this kind of stuff happens. Second of all, no it doesnt work with sunglasses without turning on the feature that doesnt require you to look into the camera. There are a couple articles online as well as my family dealing with this issue. It works with sunglasses if they are not polarized. I am a fly fisherman that wears only polarized sunglasses and generally any sunglasses past $30 are going to be polarized. I think what matters here is that I prefer fingerprint because I have not worn gloves for a few years now. If you are bothered about tapping your phone then thats on you for getting a phone with touchscreen lmao.

To those that don't know an f-stop of 1.9 allows you to get such incredible bokeh and it allows so much light to pass through the lane that's staggering fair play to Apple

I seemingly picked the worst year to not pay attention.
I went to upgrade my 12 and had no idea the base 14 didn't have always on display or dynamic island. I get home and I'm figuring out that Apple basically ripped me off by selling me "last year's model at 2022 cost".
    Don't be me.

I've been owning the same phone since 2018 & it's serving me fine, this phone hype is just nonsense, nothing is improved other than the aesthetics.

Is it just me or does the dynamic island on the 14 pros come further down compromising more of the middle screen than the cut outs on the regular 14s?
When watching videos for example, you get the edge of the screen with the dynamic island, but more of the inside/center edge is lost.

I currently use an iPhone 12 Mini. I loved it at first as I did not want a huge phone in my pocket. However battery life has became an issue in recent time. I love. the idea of the 14 Pro just because of the dynamic island. Be it a feature or a gimmick looks cool. Shame I can not afford to upgrade when my contract ends.

the main reason why the iphone 14 plus is not that big of a sale is because of the features. apple made the 14 and 14 plus really new featureless and the pro max is much better in many ways for a price which is worth it.

I prefer my Pixel's AOD where the only pixels used are those that display what's necessary. I don't need to see the wallpaper or have it consistent with the OS.
I understand why Apple may want to do what they did, but I just prefer Pixel's simpler option

Can't forget that pixels DO have an animation when locking the device (at least the lock screen does)

I usually wait until my iPhone breaks, Gets too far out dated or a specific feature that surpasses all other phones that gods mode before I get another Pro Max version of the latest iPhone. And with the rumors of the iPhone 15. I might stay with my iPhone 12 Pro Max and wait until then and just pick up AirPods Pro 2

I think the mini iphone 13 failed cause most people that afford the iPhone 13's could just buy the pro versions and probably wont care about the cost

I actually don't like this island.. looking very intrusive on the screen since it's very large making it very noticeable

I understand why apple is separating features pending on what phone they buy. Hue example is the big screen. my mother and my friend buy 12 pro max's just so they could have a big screen. they don't use the cameras for anything serious, nor realize they have a monster power phone all they use it is for consuming media. Now if they decide to update, it will be less expensive to get what they actually need instead of getting over kill power just to check they're status online

13 Pro max was the best thing I ever did. I’m terrible at charging my phone so having a phone that lasts for days is a blessing.

The new pricing in the UK and Europe is something you failed to mention mate. It’s like 100-150 quid more expensive this year for the pro.
    Great video as always 👍

Want all cellphone makers to get rid of front facing cameras entirely. Always on implementation doesn't look half a decade more developed than Android. Glad they're making some meaningful efforts to improve the already impressive camera software. They do desperately need storage capacity upgrades

    Hey arun!!
I’m a BIG fan of ur content, but I was just laying here in my bed when I though about the new iPhones and how the iPhone 14 can film cinematic mode in 4k while the 13’s pro can only film in 1080p. and as far as I know them both have the same processor and lenses, shouldn’t they be able BOTH to film in 4k? idk just thinking that apple could do a software update

iPhone 14 literally came out like 9 hours ago and Arun with his team already managed to create such a well made video in such a short time.
Or there might also be a possibility that he got an early access to the iPhone 14 a while before the event. Because he is a big tech channel.
    But still very Impressive.
