I can see the P18k being useful for people who go on arctic expeditions or something like that. It could’ve been sold very well if they made it for that purpose or something similar with other optimisations for that sort of thing but as a normal smartphone it’s only going to fail realistically.

The Blackberry Z10 was actually an amazing phone. Besides the lack of apps (which was largely remedied by sideloading Android apps), the multitasking, gesture controls, and keyboard were way ahead of their time. I was devastated when mine died suddenly and wouldn't reboot. RIP BB Z10 (2013-2015).

No, apple's reasoning was "if we slow their devices down to a crawl they'll have to upgrade to a new device". The blatant *excuse* they gave was battery life longevity. This is much more in line with the type of thing apple would do.

In actuality, this is against Apple’s ideas only because they’re focusing a lot on subscriptions now. There’s always the risk a consumer will switch away from iPhone when they become dissatisfied with its performance, so Apple has actually made an effort to keep iPhones in the running as long as possible, because every iPhone is a portal to Apple Music, iCloud+, Apple TV and all the other subscriptions they’re hoping on being the future for them (phone sales across the board are slowly declining, this is their plan to respond). Still very scummy they never gave you the option to turn off throttling in the first place, but it at least makes some sense?

As a former LG G5 owner (had it for over 2 years, bought a OnePlus next), I have to say that though the modularity aspect was completely stupid and a failure, the phone itself performed wonderfully as my first ever flagship device and is the reason I've now moved from mid-range to high-end smartphones (had a Sony M2 before the LG, and a pretty weak Hauwei before that).

the G5 was actually great! None of it's "features" were required in anyway. You could still replace the battery easily when others like the Galaxy S6 (or S7 or further) could not. I do not see how it's ability to expand with expansions and choices makes it a failure compared to the S6 that had zero customization.

I'm actually floored that HTC put that secondary display on the U. I know everyone eventually copies LG's innovation in the phone industry, but that's one i thought nobody would want to steal lol. Also, I absolutely loved the LG G5. I don't think the modularity was the selling point, I personally never cared. BUT IT HAD A WIDE ANGLE. The cameras on the G5 blew me away when I got it, makes me sad to see that nobody else liked the phone like i did haha. I gave it plenty of love until it didn't work anymore, and then I removed the modular battery and made it a foldable with my hands.

Instead of a flip action, it could've had 2 separate screens that seamlessly blended, but to make it smaller, one of the screens pops up, like an elevator, and slides down onto the lower screen, and once on top of the lower screen, it locks, and the lower screen shuts off. It'd leave out the issues of flexible screens wirh the plastic or screen coming off, the battery sucking, etc. You could keep the main battery in the lower section, and the upper screen has a secondary battery to power it while it moves. I'm putting this out there, so now anyone can use it, but if you do use it, please mention me, or atleast build a major factory in West Virginia, we need more jobs.

That energizer phone would have been pretty helpful if it was advertised as an “emergency phone” instead of an actual smart phone. People prone to hurricanes and earthquakes or just any natural disasters, retrofit it with a gps and satellite capable calls. An “every boat and plane must have” that would have probably been received more positively.

AirPower’s fail was I think smart in Apples decision to just kill it. Most companies can’t afford to do that after developing for two years and are forced release it anyways. Apple knew the development is getting thrown out but was overall better to maintain their brand than to throw a inconsistent lackluster product out.

Have to disagree with the Pixel 4 ranking. It's not super special, but it's the reason I haven't swapped phones for a few years now. It's gimmicky, and not as impressive as the competition of the time, but comparing it to the other flops in the list is a little weird because it's just another iteration of pixel phone. A small roadblock in the google phone ecosystem

@Anurag Rai you're in a complete misapprehension here. Samsung were nowhere close to being the most popular Android phone. In 2009 they were still pushing the Omnia phones with Windows Mobile. Meanwhile there were phones like the Motorola Droid, HTC Dream and Hero. The first Samsung Galaxy was a bad phone, and they started to get a grip when they released the Galaxy S series in 2010, and then they still were an underdog for quite a time.

No the battery gate thing didn't actually improve the battery in fact it harmed the battery. As instead of actually slowing down the system they just made the chips go ham on nothingness. Making their older phones much warmer much slower and their batteries both degraded faster and died faster.
Apple is a smart enough company where this decision was most certainly to make people switch to newer phones.

Glad the moto Z didn't make the list... I think? They went modular but unlike the G5, the mods could be used on future generations, and they were all compatible for all four generations of the Moto z in all it's trim levels. Problems started with most of the mods being too expensive, like hundreds of dollars. The cheap mods were just style shells, but they didn't offer the level of protection that even a cheap case would. The first gen offered the Moto z play, mid-range processor paired to a superior battery and camera, a flagship Moto z, and a more durable, longer-lasting battery, super flagship called the Moto z Force which was only available on Verizon. The second gen only had the main Moto z but it was actually worse than the previous years. Third gen Saw the Moto z become a mid-ranger due to the success of their Moto g line and people's perception of Motorola as a maker of mid-range phones, not flagships. At this point Motorola was the only manufacturer making mods for their phones, and they were giving them away with purchases of a phone or of another mod just to get rid of them, but The phones at this point were basically Moto g's so unless you are willing to make the investment in a mod as well as sacrifice the protection offered by a phone case, there was no real reason to get a Moto z. I actually have a Moto z play, the first gen. I got it when it came out. It came with one style shell which was a walnut wood back, I purchased a $20 gray bamboo with back to switch out with it as well as a $200 hasselblad camera mod. It made the phone look like it was Frankensteined with a vintage camera, and offered real optical zoom. That said the photos weren't so much better that they justified the $200 price point if I wasn't zooming in, and it seemed super delicate and not like smthg I would want on my phone at all times. I ended up returning it and almost never using the style shells because I just put a protective case on it. Eventually Motorola made an external battery pack mod that was far cheaper and had a much bigger capacity than the ones made by other manufacturers so I bought that and kept it on my phone. Even though it's a super old mid-ranger now, I still use it as a secondary phone because the battery, with the mod, lasts for 2 days (versus my current Galaxy s10e which doesn't even last one full day)

Currently watching this from my essential ph1 and have not regretted my decision in 2017 of preordering it. It's been my favorite phone since, of course since it is a 2017 phone, running graphic intensive apps like PUBG is out of the question hence why I bought an iPhone on the side to also have a good camera. Though, this phone is the best daily phone you can have, it's still snappy and appearance can not be bested by anything in the market with it's zero brand mirror like ceramic backing

I really liked my LG phones, I had a G2 and G6. Now I have a Samsung S21 and even though it's ok, it's worse than my old G6 in a few ways. The fingerprint scanner is a disaster, the plastic housing feels cheap and the camera is really bad at macro shots. Even my G2 from 2013 made better ones. Much better.
So hopefully LG gets back on its feet by the next time I need a new phone :)

Well the fire store is actually quite useful in the fact that they don't move old apps from the store unlike google, who removes everything that isn't updated yearly it seems. Plenty of my old games are still on the fire store but nowhere to be seen on Google Play. Even the name Google Play is downright awful, remember when it used to be called the Android market?

The moto razr is awesome. Daily drive it and I love how small it gets. I can put it in my pocket and sit down. The camera isn't the best but good enough.. the performance of the phone is good enough for 99.9% of people. Everything has plus and minus... The plus outweighs any minus imo. I would have a hard time going back to a slab phone. Having to take my phone out of my pocket before sitting down is not worth an awesome cam..

I used to love HTC phones, I think the TMobile G1 phone was my first, I think after that was the MyTouch 3G, and then I went to an HTC HD2 but luckily that was one of the only phones I've ever seen that supported ways of installing multiple OS's (people made Android and Windows Phone work on it), then I had the HTC One S, then the HTC One M7 and M8 which I loved screwing around with televisions in public with the infrared blaster with. And then I believe after that I went with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, then Note 8, and now I'm typing this on the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Then later in the video i realized it was a fail rating, and essentially a reverse rating... your rating scale sux, otherwise good info here. Oh and btw, i completely agree with the "personal assistant" being forced on samsung and other phone users... this is bs, and I would quickly replace my android phone with another phone that isn't pushing privacy squashing invasive bs in my face every time i pick up my phone.

The best phone I ever owned was an lg g2. Replaceable battery, Sd card, headphone jack, rootable, and it smoked every phone on the market or at least matched it, in the case of the pixel. Used it for almost 7 years and never felt limited, until it finally broke when I dropped it from a balcony. Nothing else has even come close, except a marginal performance increase. Allthough this s21 ultra is pretty decent.

I could indeed see the use for a phone like that for back country stuff. We conserve our phones as much as possible to use with our SOS spot beacon when needed. We bring a good size battery pack to recharge each item as needed, so that is more versatile but if they marketed that phone a little differently then they may have had more sales. Kinda too bad they missed the mark

HTC seems to have a habit of flopping on products and fading out of the mass consumer eye.
They used to be one of the top dogs in VR, then they released an entire line of mediocre buggy VR systems for too much money. They almost pulled it back with their next one, but the damage was done and they faded out in the wake of Meta and other companies with more consistent success.

I am shocked at how many views your videos have. Well done. For people like me (and I am not alone in this) believe that the bottleneck on smartphones is the battery. We do not need better cameras. We do not need better resolution displays. We do not need faster data transfers. We do not need higher storage capacities. We do not need a new set of apps. We do not need better refresh rates. We do not need slimmer designs. What we need is a batter ten times the current capacity, even if it triples the width. If a company increased the battery size by ten times... it might equal one of the old flip phones in battery life. I miss being able to not charge my phone for over a month and still make a call.
