How much innovation that has gone into smartphones is amazing. Phones like the LG Wing, the Z Fold, etc are really innovative whether you think they're useful or not.

    • Paniekzaaier
      Paniekzaaier दिन पहले

If they are not useful, it’s not an innovation. Innovation means to ‘improve on an existing invention’. Making a product useless is exactly the opposite of innovation.

The Samsung transparent phone looks like something out of a movie. The foldable iPhone if it makes the market would surely sell out as it would be much more compact and comfortable to cary around and just as u said it wouldn't have many problems. The Samsung tetris would also workout if they would be able to fix any side touch problems. Thank u sir for sharing this entertaining information.I expect more beautiful videos and sir how about one on drones

I actually liked the drone camera phone best. You could sell that as a separate accessory you can replace from time to time. If you use it sensibly, you can take some great photos from up above, from down below, and some cool pan shots. If you use some decent AI so that it doesn't bump into stuff, and the blades are made of flexible material, it would be very cool. You need to get a permit to buy a drone in most countries. But because this mini drone can't fly higher than 25-30 high anyway, it might not need it

Transparent screen has already been a thing for a while. You can even buy smaller transparent screens yourself if you like tinkering. (good for stacking into a volumetric display) The problem was always the battery. Currently there are no transparent batteries, only translucent ones and nobody wants an ugly tinted block in their "transparent" device, any more than a regular batter. btw that's probably why nobody was able to bring back the transparent style from the turn of the millennium. Batteries make them look uuuugly! I got a translucent black handheld console (RG350) a few years back because I like the concept, but it never looked good IRL and I never bought a translucent gadget since.

I'm still waiting on the two-color camera sensor that Samsung was allegedly working on bringing to market about five years ago, and a real internal optical zoom mechanism that functions along the entire zoom range instead of only offering two positions melded together through digital zoom. I'd also love to see Samsung or another company implement a Quantum dot OLED panel using near-ultraviolet blue diodes through color filters to further reduce burn-in on phone screens. Given that the majority of people replace their phones due to battery wear and associated slow-downs, I'd imagine that giving people even more license to leave their screens on indefinitely would be ideal for companies hoping to rack up battery cycles and force people to upgrade in a timely fashion. Oh, and let's not forget that Samsung, and the handful of other companies that are part of the consortium that created the UFS standard of mobile storage NAND flash, also created a removable version that has yet to see a production application despite being at its third generation and offering roughly twice the bandwidth of UHS-III MicroSD storage speeds. MicroSD-Express does offer greater theoretical performance compared to the UFS standards for removable media, but I've also yet to see any devices capable of using that either, particularly not in the mobile phone space. Give me at least one of those options and release some cards for it so I can safely hoard data on my device with impunity.
Also, on a personal note, I'd like for companies to go back to having narrow bezels at the top and bottom of their phones if they can't figure out how to make under-screen cameras a thing. I appreciate having places to grip my phone from and places for cameras, speakers, and sensors to live. I've never really looked at my Note 9 and thought "I'd love for this device to be even more unwieldy to hold in landscape orientation. I'd also really like for more companies to invest more effort into their haptic feedback systems. LG proved that you could use multiple haptic motors to provide a convincing keyboard feedback system, so it'd be nice to have that on more modern devices. And, if we're bringing things back from dead devices, I'd also appreciate it if Apple and Google would finish stealing all of the UI elements from WebOS's mobile platform already.

I can see a legitimate use for transparent phones, which is AR. The selfie camera (and/or potentially other sensors) could track your eye and display things based on that so it wouldn't be just a camera footage with added stuff but a proper added layer on top of reality.

@Does It Even Matter you're taking it too far...you make it sound like the smart glasses would replace the phone. They would not, they would just be another accessory like the smart watch. Instead of pulling out my phone to look at my steps, heart rate, time, date, notifications, I just look at my watch for that info. I don't text or talk with my watch. In the case of smart glasses it would be neat to quickly be able to see notifications or have an AR map projected over my vision Instead of looking at my phone at Google maps. Or staring at a QR code and knowing what it means, likewise instant translation of foreign text to English. These are things that my phone can already do but which would be more convenient with smart glasses.

I think the transparent gimmick can work, with one modification that I haven't heard of any company working on.
It needs a full wrap around screen, so that you have the option to make it opaque. Ideally this would mean you could pick a 'skin' for the phone when you don't want people to see through it, but even a simple 'click glass' layer would work. Without that, NOBODY is going to want a phone that lets people see what you're doing constantly, with no option to obscure your activity from public view.
A phone that is normally transparent, but turns opaque at the push of a (virtual) button could sell though, because it IS the gimmick that people have imagined the future would have, so even if it objectively sucks it would be popular with that modification.

I love how these companies have like these crazy ideas on how to make the next gen smartphone, but imo smartphone uses won't change that much from now on. People will obviously use it for games, social media, and basic life stuff. Moat people gonna use that phone, foldable or not, tetris or not, to scroll Instagram and watch youtube. And honestly with how modern smartphones nowadays can do perfectly that with little downsides, just signals me that we are near peak smartphones.

Wearable tech with AR is probably where it is all going.
The call comes into your sim fitted smartwatch and your AR glasses project the image from the phone (or give the appearance of it projecting only to the AR glasses wearer) of the person calling.
People who played 'Pokemon Go' (like my kids did) have already seen AR in action and the watches could incorporate kinetic charging through the natural movement of the wearer which, as far as I know, hasn't made it to wearable tech yet but has been seen in wristwatches in the past.
I think the idea of actually having to hold the 'phone' itself will diminish as time and tech go on so all of this fighting for the latest and greatest application of the form factor (messing with how flexible/big/small etc) is possibly a step backwards or treading water whilst the rest of tech catches up.

    • Literary Landslide
      Literary Landslide 3 महीने पहले

Kinetic charging is viable on regular watches coz of the tiny battery, it can't be compared to a smartwatch's power usage I think. And AR might be too intrusive for many people who want less digital world and more reality. It would prolly be very useful for a lot of types of work, but I think screen devices will still have their place as an isolated, unobstructed & high quality viewing experience that you don't have to turn into a cyborg to enjoy.

I think a transparent phone is possible with camera tricks it shows you what you see. The hardest thing is the transparent camera or the position is outside the display area. When it lay on something it's black but when you use it inhand you can see all (except the apps).
But the most impressive is the OPPO-Phone. They are now great and will getting greatest in future (I hope so).

I'd argue with so many zombies that stare deeply into their phone and lose sight of the world around them it'd probably be a good idea to have a clear screen to see through and still somewhat observe the world, probably a bit safer so not as gimmicky As It Seems. I also wonder if lights able to pass through the screen perhaps it doesn't cause as much issues with reflection and you don't need as bright of a screen Outdoors maybe I don't know though

i think, you miss understood about samsung transparent display. you can assume it as imac where the hardware is not behind the screen, but on thr downside of the screen.
in this case, you dont need all components to be transparent. just focus on the screen. if samsung can solve the screen bump issue in the fold and flip series, it may extend that tech to this transparent phone. just fold and unfold the screen when needed.
if we extend this design concept, one day, may be we not need screen also, but replace screen with a hologram.

Love this. I do think the concept of "The Apple Way" is bogus and disproven by history. We have the iPhone 4 debacle, Apple Maps, Bendgate with IPhone 6+, and many other bad launches to show Apple does release premature products like everyone else. Then there's the famous video of Steve Jobs talking about getting in on tech in the spring of that technology. Apple was famously first with the floppy disc, the mouse, USB, optical drives, USB-C only laptops, etc. So the notion that Apple doesn't go with experimental tech is also inaccurate. Apple has gotten lazy and stuck with tiny, incremental changes for maximum profit, that's the new Apple.
Excellent video otherwise and I would peddle my ass to get a transparent phone! I do not agree the battery life will necessarily be limited because of advances in both battery tech and efficiency. Who knows what we see at CES 2023....

That last phone has a glaring problem. I'm watching this on a z fold 4, so I'm familiar with folding screens. The T shaped screen seems to be all one material, one with the folding screen. My inner folding screen on a z fold is plastic, so I'm guessing that entire phone needs to have a plastic screen

There is a smartphone that came out years ago talking back when the G1 dropped and evo people still using sidekicks that was a tv phone! With a actual aerial antenna that popped up after you slide the top part of the screen sideways it flipped kind of like the sidekick screen. It was a cadybar slime blackberry hybrid crazy thing that you need to hunt down! And do a series on phones that tried to push the envelope doing something different like walkie-talkie phones Phones with universal remotes stuff like that
